2011….that’s all folks!
Here we are…time for my sappy end of the year entry of gratitude. While these entries might make me sound like what I do is a lot bigger then it actually is, it is important to me to let you all know how much I appreciate you.
2011 marked Sink or Swim’s 2nd official year as a company and easily the most successful year yet! From publications, to recognitions, to donations, to collaborations, to new customers and friends. I may take the orders and paint the shoes but without the support and enthusiasm from you, SOS wouldn’t be half of what it has become. My happy accident has evolved into my brainchild.
I’d first like to thank Alternative Press magazine for the feature in the April 2011 issue, specifically style editor Carrie Tucker, Dan Marter of Red Distribution, AP Mini Mag, peta2, specifically Megan Rondeau, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, No Sleep Records, Paint or Thread, Custom Sneaker Forum, TOMS shoes, Vans Girls, Stage and Stills, Planet Stereo, DJ Rossstar, Josey for showing off her shoes in the Glee movie, and more! It was a pleasure to collaborate with all of you!
Thank you to Set Your Goals, Framing Hanley, The Wonder Years, Suicide Silence, Breathe Carolina, Charlie Saxton from the show Hung, Steve Vitale who had me make shoes for Shaun Levy, the director of Real Steel.
Thank you to all of the countries I’ve been fortunate enough to reach! I’m amazed that I’ve been able to reach out to so many parts of the world.
Thank you to everyone who has ordered shoes or even just checked out my stuff or “liked” the facebook fan page. I am forever grateful for your support.
For those of you who don’t know, I work as a full time art teacher by day. I come home nearly everyday to paint shoes and I wouldn’t have it any other way. At times it can be extremely overwhelming and I get in over my head but it’s always worth it. I run this completely on my own. From answering e-mails to buying the shoes to painting them to packaging to waiting in line at the post office. Hours upon hours are dedicated to getting freshly custom hand painted sneakers out there and I wouldn’t have it any other way. For 2012 I’m highly considering hiring another artist or 2 to help me with the work load but that will come in due time when I ask around and check out people’s work.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Let’s do big things in 2012.
